In July of 2004, I was invited to come to Brazil to look at photographers’ work as part of the portfolio reviews for Brasilia’s excellent annual festival of photography, Foto Arte. I spent 6 days in Rio de Janeiro before the festival, wandering and photographing the streets of city, its great botanical garden and Niterói (the home of Oscar Niemeyer's spaceship-resembling Contemporary Art Museum), only a short ferry ride from Rio.
